Fallen Tree

Strong Winds this weekend

6th December 2024 – The Met Office has issued warnings for strong winds in this area from now until Sunday morning. For Sticklepath the worst winds are expected to be tomorrow from 3am to 9pm, as Storm Darragh comes through. The advice from Devon County Council is:

  • Be alert to fallen trees and branches, particularly on minor roads where they may not have been reported;
  • Consider if your journey is essential and be alert to weather warnings.
  • Allow additional time for your journey, never drive under fallen trees, through floodwater or swollen flowing water, you don’t know how deep it is. Find an alternative route;
  • Reduce your speed and leave more space between you and the vehicle in front and leave plenty of room if you’re overtaking;
  • Drive with care and according to the conditions.
  • Listen to local radio for updates on current weather conditions

The emergency services and highways agencies are on alert and ready to respond. In case of danger to life or serious injury always dial 999. We also have a team of people in Sticklepath who know where equipment and resources can be found to help you, and will be checking up on vulnerable residents, particularly if there are power cuts.
