Clerk’s Report to Sticklepath Parish Council December 2022

General Tasks

  • I have forwarded lots of emails to the councillors, and read others which proved to not be of interest to Sticklepath.
  • I have corrected the minutes following an email from Ben Shapcott, as I had mistakenly thought that Simon Thompson was the new Finch Foundry Manager, whereas he is the new Operations Manager for West Dartmoor.
  • I have edited and send the retirement letters from the council to Ian Brooker and the DNPA.
  • I have sent the meeting dates to the Village Hall and posted them on the noticeboard.
  • I have scanned some letters re the cattle attacks on Dartmoor, which I received by post.
  • I have made the banking payments agreed at the last meeting, and since.
  • I have forwarded letters composed by Cllr Derek Moore to Stags and Godfrey, Short and Squire regarding the ’20 is Plenty’ signs.

Training

  • I have attended an HMRC webinar about payroll administration, which confirmed that I am doing it correctly!
  • I attempted to join a webinar on the Public Sector Geospatial Agreement, but the sound quality was so bad I couldn’t hear anything. I have received a recording of it, which I will watch when I have time. One of the things it covered was how to use the data from Ordnance Survey for free, without subscribing to Parish Online.

Book of Condolence –

I have received a reply from Ruth Cartlidge on behalf of the Northmoor churches. She suggests that we could store the condolence book with the Okehampton Town Council or West Devon District Council (WDBC). WDBC requested that books were collected in by the beginning of October, they were going to bind them as a record for the borough. Therefore I think we may have ‘missed the boat’ on that idea. The only church alternative appeared to be in the Okehampton Collection of the Devon Heritage Centre in Exeter. I know that Belstone have stored their condolence book in the care of St Mary the Virgin church, Belstone. I believe our options for storing the book are therefore:

  1. Our own records.
  2. St. Mary’s Heritage Centre
  3. Okehampton Town Council
  4. Devon Heritage Centre (would need delivering by hand with their completed form)
  5. WDBC (if they will still receive it)
