Parish Council
There have been several storms which have affected the village in the last few weeks bringing with them significant periods of wind and rain and causing disruption on our roads in the Parish. I have been busy responding to different challenges caused by these storms.
During Storm Henk, a tree fell onto the main road up by Higher Combeshead House. I was able to contact Highways immediately by telephone, speak directly to the Highways Officer and confirm the arrival of an emergency clearing team. In the meantime, I drove up to the location of the fallen tree myself to add my support to the operation. Shortly after my arrival, a man with a chainsaw license turned up and offered to cut some of the branches away to open up one lane and he was shortly followed by another man who worked for a truck towing company and was able to drag the tree off one of the carriageways to then enable traffic to pass in both directions safely; the Highways team then cut and cleared the rest of the debris and the road was passable within the hour.
There was also a significant puddle which was covering both carriageways of the main road, just down the road from the fallen tree. I was able to arrange for this to be cleared by the Emergency Clearing Team. They placed Flood signs on both sides of the puddle and then proceeded to cut deep into the verge to clear the debris away from the drain which then allowed the puddle to drain away quickly.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those individuals who were able to support our Parish and to help clear the roads and/or minimize the disruption caused by the wind and rain. I would also like to thank Highways for their speedy response to any concerns raised and for helping to keep everyone safe.
I completed the Grant Application and submitted it. We are awaiting approval.
