It has been quite quiet over the summer.
After the cancellation of the Village Day this year I was very pleased when George Jones of the Taw River approached me to offer a donation from the Taw Rivers Beer Festival and BBQ to assist in the fundraising for playing field equipment the other charity chosen this year is Hospice Care. This year George and Summer arranged two bands and it was a huge success with what appeared to be record numbers attending. We sold nearly 300 burgers plus 100 sausages so maybe an indication of numbers. They will be in touch about making the donation for the playing fields shortly. I thought we should minute our thanks to George, Summer, Paul and Sue as well as the other local businesses who donated to the BBQ and Raffle these included Ellis Bakers (whose owners live in village) and Image Makers.
I have had a few people mention ongoing dog mess in back lane so I did wonder if it was worth reviewing signage in that area. We also had a complaint about the verge at the West end of the village close to the Lady well. Under our policy as it is only a single complaint, I do not think we need to act. The verge has been damaged by the unloading of building materials to the adjacent property. I suggest we keep an eye on this and we can raise it informally if it looks like it isn’t going to be made good.
More seriously there were several complaints about the use of herbicide on Billy Green. I have not heard from anyone who may have done this, although it seems to have been to form a path to the bench so possibly carried out with the best intention. Cllr Moore may be able to add further information.
I wanted to end though with a thank you to Cllr Niki Wooldridge for covering the mailbox while the Clerk was on annual leave.
