There has been some consternation about the necessity of the work on Sticklepath Hill to replace the safety barrier up by Hayes Storage. It was necessary because the previous barrier was old and ineffective. A few residents have complained to me that the budget used to do THIS work could have been better spent on potholes. This work comes out of a different budget.
A number of drains in the local area including those in our parish have become blocked or saturated due to the enormous quantity of rain which we have had in the last few weeks. I have informed Highways of their location and they have or will be dealt with in due course.
Work has started on Skaigh Lane to investigate the cause of the subsidence up by the junction to the car park. Highways have indicated that it could be due to failed drainage piping OR natural underground water currents. Either way, the plan is to sort this out soon. The junction of Skaigh Lane to the main road through Sticklepath seems to be holding out now that a full apron has been applied; again this area is a bad area for water running off the hill and deteriorates rapidly.
Highways have been out to look at Willey Lane and the state of the road. I have mentioned again that this needs sorting out.
The main road through the village is in a dreadful state especially up by Sticklepath Hill. I continue to keep Highways informed. Highways have also been cutting some of the trees back in places in our parish. This is work agreed between Highways and Stagecoach who were worried about branches damaging their vehicles on routes in the area.
