Let Our Lawns Bloom This May
As the lawn mowing season approaches, why not delay it until June or beyond? Let our lawns bloom by not mowing this May.
Research shows unmown lawns support 10× more pollinators by allowing wildflowers like daisies, clover, and buttercups to bloom. As No Mow May approaches, we encourage our community to put away the lawnmower and let nature thrive. This simple act of not mowing during May creates vital habitats for pollinators like bees, butterflies, and moths, which are essential for healthy ecosystems and food production.
If people are not keen on the idea of letting their whole lawn go wild for a month, they could use lawn-mowing to give a sense of tidiness and control by cutting borders and paths through uncut patched left for our lovely butterflies.
Following a Green Spaces Consultation back in 2022, Sticklepath Parish Council have reduced the number of times their verges and other open areas are mown, in order to encourage wildlife. Why not do the same? Put your feet up and enjoy the butterflies!
